Ken Town (Barsac) moved house recently and has offered some of his Cavalier paintings to the Scottish Cavalier Club in aid of their funds. Most are copies of 19th century paintings. As Chatterbox has a wide readership, I am including details of the paintings here and if anyone is interested they should contact Lyndsey Gowon lgow.lyncraeg@blueyonder.co.uk for further details.

THIS IS CANBERRA CALLING
Marian Mynott(Honeybet) writes "I had a fabulous time visiting Australia to judge the Canberra CKCS Championship Show in their 25th Anniversary year. I judged day one at their 50th show. What an honour and pleasure to be invited to judge this special show. The hospitality from the club committee was amazing and the welcome from everyone was warm. The dogs were of good quality, making some of the decisions very close.
My main winners were
Best In Show... Ch Matmor A Scandalous Affair
Reserve Best In Show/Best Opposite ....GrCh Caribelle Fairy Tale.
It was lovely to judge the baby puppies on the Sunday..
Best Baby Puppy....Matmor The Graduate, a ruby son of my BIS from the Saturday.
Best Veteran....Sup Ch/Fnl/Est/Swd/Nor/Dnk/FCI/Int Ch Elvenhome Finlandia at 13yrs
Steve Mynott took these photos. Thanks go to Barbara Killworth, official photographer, for allowing him to share her backdrop.
After a two nights stop-over in Singapore we completed our journey to Sydney where we linked up with Leila Tarabad and John Whitman. We hired a car and headed off for Canberra, stopping en route at Bateman Bay for a couple of nights. The scenery was breath-taking. When we arrived in Canberra we were looked after so well by the committee and thoroughly enjoyed the city and surrounding areas. I saw Kangaroos, Koala and a Duck Billed Platypus all of which were on my must see list. After the show we drove to the Blue Mountains. John chose the backdrop of The Three Sisters and the setting sun to surprise Leila with a marriage proposal which she accepted, (phew, could have been an interesting drive to Sydney if she had declined). We celebrated their engagement with a meal and some sparkling wine. When we arrived in Sydney, Leila and John went to Bondi Beach to visit friends and we checked in to a lovely harbour hotel for a few nights to take in the sights and sounds of Sydney. We met Prince Charles in the Botanical Gardens where we were able to shake his hand and have a brief conversation with him. From Sydney we travelled to Queensland, to the Whitsunday Islands and Airlie Beach. We took a light aircraft trip over the Great Barrier Reef, so stunning. The next day we took a boat trip around the islands; one stop was Whitehaven beach, 7.5k of white silicon sand with no developments to spoil it. Perfect for swimming in crystal blue water, relaxing or playing beach games. Just watch out for jelly fish and snakes. We recommend a visit to Bowen which has many buildings painted with murals depicting various events. They are very interesting. The Lookout point high above the town provides 360 degrees of stunning views. Photographs do not do these views justice. Thank you Canberra CKCS club and committee for giving me the opportunity to visit your lovely country.
HOW "ART" THOU?
Margaret Ann Baldwin (Picardy) lived at Sunbury on Thames in Middlesex and sadly passed away on 8th December at the age of 93.
Close friend Ann Gill(Florindale) writes a tribute..."Margaret Ann was the daughter of Colonel James Baldwin who founded the Picardy kennel and was instrumental in introducing the German Shepherd dog to the UK and getting the “Alsatian” as it as known at that time recognised by the Kennel Club. She showed and handled GSDs whilst still at school and by the mid 50’s she was judging GSDs as well as obedience and trials at Championship and international events. She judged on the Continent, in the USA, Australia and New Zealand as well as a judging tour of Africa. Whilst living in the United States she ran all breed training classes in Alabama and was head trainer for the GSD League of Northern California. In this country she judged Crufts 3 times and the first time she judged at Crufts was also the first time a GSD went BIS. She also twice judged at the RAF Police Dog Championship Finals and also judged at the Metropolitan Police Dog Championships.
When the Germanic type of GSD took over she transferred her interest to Cavaliers. She very much admired the Salador kennels and bought a Blenheim bitch from Sheila Smith which she mated to Kindrum Alberto who produced 3 lovely puppies which were shown with considerable success the most well known being Picardy’s Anna-Maria. She also had a Black/Tan bitch from Ruth Mochrie to start her wholecolour line and Picardy’s Corbin went to Bridgette Evans and features in many of her dogs' pedigrees. In her mid-70’s, she served on the Southern Cavalier Committee for 4 years and also edited the Club’s “Cavalcade” magazine. In her later life she also had an Affenpinscher companion.
In the past few years she had been resident in a nursing home. Whilst frail in body she was mentally alert and always eager to hear what was happening in the Cavalier world. She was a lady of immense knowledge, great kindness, generous spirit and very dear friend.
RIP Margaret Ann....your straight talking and candid character will be sorely missed by her friends.
ARE YOU SITTING
COMFORTABLY?
...what a great photo of Janet York's youngsters taken in her home in New York.
HIS HIGH CHAIRCavalier Ron suffers from a rare condition which means his stomach is unable to digest food. Megaesophagus means he can only eat in an elevated position or risks choking on his food. Ron's owner, Sarah Taylor, was advised by vets to buy a Bailey Chair which are popular in America. When Sarah struggled to find one in the UK, she and her husband resorted to making their own. Two-year-old Ron now eats both his meals, morning and night, in his homemade throne. Sarah, from Flintshire, North Wales, said: "Ron was regurgitating his food and water after every meal.An X-ray showed that after eating, food was getting stuck in his throat as it couldn't pass through his oesophagus."It caused him to regurgitate it and he was diagnosed with megaesophagus. You have to be very careful that they don't inhale any food or water into their lungs due to it being stuck in their throats or from regurgitating as this can cause pneumonia. The vets recommended elevated feeding and showed us photos of Bailey Chairs online."Ron has to sit in his chair for 10 minutes after eating and drinking to let his meal go down."
SO FUNNY
this is for you, Joyce
