WHO'S A PRETTY BOY?
from Barbara Garnett Wilson (Laughing Cavaliers)
David Crossley has sad news for us "Gill Sheard's husband Darrell died on Sunday night in hospital after a brave fight against cancer. He was a great supporter of cavaliers and was often the first to help set up at Humberside Club shows. His funeral will take place at 2pm on Tuesday, March 26th at Huddersfield Crematorium, Fixby Road. Huddersfield HD2 2JF. Please exit M62 at junction 24 onto A6107. If you would like to make a donation in Darrell's name these should be made to Cancer Research." Our condolences to Gill and her family at this sombre time. Gill and her Almondene Cavaliers has a long association with the Humberside Cavalier Club

At the recent Cavalier Health Liaison Committee meeting, Clubs voted to ask the Kennel Club to include all results from the EF CC/DE DNA tests in the KC's registration system and in their Health Test Results Finder and published by the Kennel Club in the Breed Record supplement. Furthermore the Clubs requested that all CKCS that are not already heritably clear should be tested for both EF and DE/CC prior to breeding and that at least one parent of each litter is free of each mutation, to ensure no affected puppies can be produced or registered.
The Club recognised the AHT's findings that it is perfectly safe to breed with carriers, provided they are only ever mated to clear dogs and that we should actively encourage breeders to include their carriers in their breeding programmes so that the genetic diversity of the breed is not compromised. The two mutations are inherited independently, so it is perfectly safe for one parent to be a carrier of one mutation and for the other parent to be a carrier of the other mutation, or for one parent to bea carrier for both mutations.
The Cavalier Clubs would like to thank the AHT for carrying out this work which represents the culmination of several years research that has been funded by several Breed Clubs, individuals and organisations including theKennel Club Charitable Trust.

An old "Pond's Extract" trade card that Betzie Smith (Rose Arbour Cavaliers in Maryland) found at a local Postcard show.
Pond's Cream was invented in the United States as a patent medicine by pharmacist Theron T Pond of Utica, New York, in 1846. Mr Pond extracted a healing tea from witch hazel which he discovered could heal small cuts and other ailments. After Theron died, it would be known as "Pond's Extract."

A splendid way to bring the weekend in Dallas to a close with the greeting "Y'all come back now" in typical Texas style.
