POTTERY PUZZLE?
Elaine Dempster in Hastings in the USA wonders if anyone has seen this type of Staffordshire Spniel before. She found it in a resale shop. Elaine writes "I'm hoping one of your readers in Chatterbox might be able to give a little history on it or tell me how I can find out as it looks nothing like anything I've been able to find on the internet. Plus there aren't any markings on the bottom."

GEORGIA DOG SHOWS....AKC STYLE
You would think after 4 days at the CKCSC USA Specialty that we would have overdosed and had enough....not on your life! At the end of the following week we attended shows in Atlanta but this time it was All Breed shows held under American Kennel Club rules. None of the Cavalier judges were breed specialists and this time many of the dogs were not in the hands of their owners but brought to the show and handled by professionals. Without exception every Cavalier was turned out in immaculate condition, not a hair out of place. In many other breeds, behind the scenes was a 'work in progress' as many got their dogs ready for the ring. Bathed, dried, styled, shaped, whatever it took to get them to the high standard required to impress the judges. Personally, it was all too much for me, much preferring the more natural, but possibly more amateurish presentation of my own breed at home. Perhaps the glamour factor isnt such an important factor in the UK. But all to his own and it was just my impression. I did find it quite sad to see the docile, almost doleful look in the eyes of some of the spunky breeds as they stood on their grooming tables, noosed in place, just waiting passively for their handler to return for more 'finishing'. Of course, there were dogs who were presented and exhibited by their owners and it was nice to see them get recognition when it was deserved. Here are some sights from the show ......
