Prue Massey (Burleeds Cavaliers and Papillons)from New South Wales in Australia passed away peacefully on 21st September 2015. Prue in the past was a frequent visitor to our shows and had great knowledge of the breed. Her keen sense of humour was delightful. Our condolences to her daughter Rose and the rest of the family. There are 4 qualifying heats and points are awarded for the top 5 teams in a heat. The top 10 teams after the heats move forward to the final at Crufts 2016.
At the Forest Oak Rally Show, Glouscester on 23rd August the ‘Cavaliers at Work’ team came 2nd out of 8 teams (1st GSD, 2nd Cavaliers, 3rd Whippets, 4th Border Collies & 5th Greyhounds). On the 13th September at BAGSD Obedience Show, Slough - wasn’t a good day for us as we had a few errors but we came 5th. So we are currently in 3rd position with 15 points. (1st GSD 17 points, 2nd Whippets 16 points, 3rd Cavaliers 15 points, 4th Tollers/Samoyeds 10 points, 6th Goldies 9 points, 7th Border Collies 7 points, 8th Greyhounds 6 points). Final heat is at Stoneleigh on the 7th November, so all to play for, but looking good for Crufts qualification. We are all rooting for you! Good Luck
PET ME
When Joanna Matson and her even-keeled Cavalier, Melinda arrived at the Sacramento International Airport on Friday, the first thing she did was look at the digital displays for delayed flights.“Okay, gates 19 and 20 have been waiting for more than an hour. Well here come the relaxation corps."
Sacramento International is the newest of about 30 airports across the country partnering with volunteer therapy dogs and their handlers in an effort to improve travelers’ experience. Airport officials expect the animals that make up the Boarding Area Relaxation Corps – which yields the adorable acronym BARC – will help relax passengers and make wait times go by faster.
"I’ve never seen anything like it before,”said passenger Kate Carney, while she waited for her flight home to Portland. “People have a certain amount of anxiety about flying and dogs are kind of natural therapists so I think it’s great.”
Research has shown that interaction with therapy animals can reduce stress and lower blood pressure. Even if travelers didn’t pet the dogs, passengers’ faces generally lit up when they saw the animals. There are now 21 airport-approved BARC teams. The organization is trying to have teams at the airport two or three times per week at each of the terminals and more often as it recruits more volunteers.

BRIDGETTE'S CRITIQUE......I was delighted to be invited to judge this show and offer my grateful thanks to the committee and my stewards, Maxine Fox- Shone & Cherrill Deans for keeping proceedings running smoothly. I'd also like to thank the exhibitors for bringing their dogs under me for assessment, a good entry numerically, however, marred by a number of absentees.
Temperaments on all exhibits without exception were excellent, I only had one bad bite and all eyes appeared dark.
Now in the spirit of maintaining our lovely breed, and leaving a legacy for those who come after us, I do have a couple of concerns, although I appreciate this is a members show and not all exhibits are destined for breeding programs, I did find it very difficult to produce a consistant line up, size and type varied.
Trimming ! there is a fine line between, tidying the underneath and hacking all the hair off the feet, this line has clearly been crossed in some instances.
