The Eastern Counties Cavalier Society held a successful show at St Ives near Cambridge on 13th April with 238 Cavaliers in the catalogue for judges Sue Brooks and Michael Hegarty. Apart from enjoying the dogs there was more ways to spend a satisfying day.... Tombola, Raffle, Heart testing, trade stands, refreshments all day. Ming and Katherine Li and Team Pascavale were celebrating their 3 new Champions by supplying cake and bubbly for the masses. Sian Watts had another gorgeous cake for her 50th Birthday. All in all....even if you didnt win in the ring there were other ways to bring a smile. This was the first of 2 shows being hosted by the Eastern Club. They are organising another event on 7th July when it is their turn to host the Joint CKCS Championship show. More details are emerging and these will appear next week. Now for a flavour of the show last week.....

Lorraine Gilhespy (Lorphil) runs a weekly ringcraft training class near Durham that is attended by several Cavaliers and other Toy breeds. We had a surprise guest turn up last week. A baby lamb! 'Lucy' was so sweet and had no nerves amongst the humans and dogs. Only a few days old and already lead and almost house trained!

A LITTLE BIT EXTRA
Rosemary Powell decided to go the extra mile, and as well as donating the Cavalier Chat Forum £20 for the oldest Cavalier at the West of England Cavalier Ch show, she made a splendid certificate (plus it's own envelope) beautifully hand scripted with a gold/copper metallic pen. The delighted recipients are Ruth and John Conneally (Coedgwylum) from Swansea and their almost 13 year old girl 'Beanie'. Ruth has been poorly but as soon as she feels better, will let Chatterbox have a photograph of their lovely Veteran.
NEW DNA TESTING SCHEMES FOR CAVALIER KING CHARLES SPANIELS
Following
consultation with the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel breed health coordinator, on
behalf of the breed clubs, the Kennel Club has approved new official DNA testing
schemes for Curly Coat-Dry Eye and Episodic Falling in the breed.
These
tests are offered by the Animal Health Trust (www.aht.org.uk) and Laboklin (www.laboklin.co.uk) and
further details can be obtained directly from them.
Copies of all future
test certificate results issued by the laboratories will be sent directly to the
Kennel Club, where the test result will be added to the dog’s registration
details, which will trigger the publication of the test result in the next
available Breed Records Supplement. The result will appear on any new
registration certificate issued for the dog and on the registration certificates
of any future progeny of the dog, and also on the Health Test Results Finder on
the Kennel Club website.
If the owner includes the original registration
certificate for the dog (not a copy) then a new registration certificate will be
issued, with the DNA result on it, free of charge. Please send any DNA test
certificates to Health & Breeder Services, The Kennel Club, 1 – 5 Clarges
Street, Piccadilly, London W1J 8AB or scan and email copies of the certificates to
