Border Union All Breeds Championship show held at Kelso, in the Scottish Borders, is one of the most favourite venues in the show calendar and to many who make the trip it almost seems like a mini holiday. Scenic surroundings, warm friendly locals, easy ring access and parking, good food, normally good weather
....it ticks so many boxes...and we have our very own Marie McFarlane and Kirstie McMurray on the Committee and that adds to the welcome Border Union offers. This year Ellie Mordecai (Millhill) was judging and here are some photos of the occasion.
Many choose to park their cages ringside...

BEXLEY'S FIRE GOES OUT
Katie Kennedy and Charlie Weidig write from New York."We are saddened to announce the passing of CKCSC/AKC CH Chadwick September Song at BlackFire,"Bexley," at the age of 15-1/2 years. In the long list of condolences we received, one thought stands out: 'She owned the ring, and she owned our hearts.'
Bexley came from our very first litter, and we always said that we didn't pick her to keep - she picked us. She was always the first puppy in the litter to come over to us when we approached the pen; how could we resist? Over the course of her lifetime, she compiled an impressive record of CKCSC class wins and finished her AKC Championship. But perhaps her greatest accomplishment in the ring came in 2010 when she was awarded Best in Show by Judge Lydia Coleman-Hutchinson, just 3 weeks before her 13th birthday. She followed that a few months later by being awarded her second major by Judge Barb Curley, thereby finishing her CKCSC-USA Championship. She is believed to be the oldest Cavalier in the long history of the club to finish a Championship.
Bexley always provided us with plenty of laughs. She was something of a pack rat, going around and collecting dog toys, slippers, leashes, and anything else we would leave lying around. She never chewed or destroyed them - she just enjoyed collecting them. At one dog show, she collected all of the leashes in the hotel room and brought them up onto the bed. The funny part is that her mother, Widget, was still attached to one of them! Bexley lived a long and healthy life, staying free of any heart murmur until she was 12 years old. She passed away at home in Katie's arms.
Our condolences on the passing of this bright star
AGILITY RECORD MAKER
Just recently Virpi Laaksonen and her black/tan boy Turo won the final CAC required to be a Finnish Agility Champion and we believe Turo is the first Cavalier to be both a Show
Champion and an Agility Champion in Finland - possibly the World? His string of titles..... Finnish, Swedish, Estonian and Lithuanian Champion and Finnish Agility Champion.
Jane Naylor who bred Turo (aka Bacchante du Nid du Faisan) writes "It takes some dedication to train a dog for agility, and Virpi has worked so well with Turo, in both show and agility rings. He is litter brother to my Bijou and they are heading for their seventh
birthday." Go Turo !
IT'S BABE'S BIRTHDAY
Estelle Dodds (Itsadodal Cavaliers) in Inverkeithing in Scotland just helped CHIFFINCH DOUBLE WHOOPIE celebrate her 15th Birthday. Estelle writes "I do feel very privileged to have 'Babe' in my life for the last 8 1/2 years. She came to live with me when her breeder Mollie (Thurston) was hospitalised and all her dogs had to be rehomed. She had previously asked me to look after 'Babe' if anything happened to her, so down to Inverkeithing she came. I became aware quite soon after she arrived that she is almost completely deaf. However she misses very little as she is always on the lookout, so long as she is awake! She does sleep quite a lot these days but still loves her food, going for short walks and generally lording it over the other dogs." Looking good Babe!

IS THAT YOU RICKY?
"Barking in Essex" is a show starting in September 2013
in the Wyndhams Theatre in London's West End. It is advertised as starring Lee Evans as hapless, dim-witted Darnley, but Andy Vella feels sure (and I agree!) that it is really Rick "ARANEL" Aldous doing a spot ofmoonlighting! Do you have a night job, Rick?
