Sterling Silver Pendant
Silver Plated Brass Filigree Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Bracelet
I was saddened to hear that Alan Shidler has passed away. Alan had been ill for quite a while, but seriously ill for just a few months. Alan and Sue have been good friends of ours for many years and we enjoyed spending time with them and their SevenWoods Cavaliers when we visited them in Illinois. Alan was justifiably proud of Sue and their Cavaliers' success. On behalf of the Cavalier community Sue, we send condolences.
WE ALL START SOMEHWERE
Just last week Gordon ventured North over the Border and took a trip to the Scottish Highlands including Braemar where our dog showing all began, and carved a path for us, that has wound it's way through Cavaliers for over 40 years. This was our very first prize card won at the North of Scotland Toy Dog show in 1974. The show was held in Braemar and the judge was Scottish breeder Helen Maclean (Helensly). How proud we were with our "Honey" Pamojill Tabwentai bred by Moira and Jill Stewart of Portoblello, Edinburgh.'Honey' began what was to be our 'way of life' in the world of dog showing. She was sired by Ch Mr Softie of Pantisa, a tricolour dog owned by George and Morag Donaldson. Royal Deeside is wonderful countryside and you can understand why it is a favourite with our Royal Family who has their Summer residence there, Balmoral Castle.

WHO WAS SINBAD?
Sheryl Skidmore lives in New Hampshire and send us this framed photo."This is a photo I found a few years ago, and I’m wondering if there’s any chance this boy played a part in the early history of the Cavalier, of if he was just a cherished pet. The owners went to some expense at the time tohave a formal portrait taken by a professional photographer and then framed in an inlaid frame! The photograph is 4” x 5 ½” silver print. The reverse of the photo is marked "Sinbad, 1913, 4 years old". The photo itself also has the stamp of “G. Maychell photographer, West Witton” on the reverse. (My research found a George Maychell in West Witton, Yorkshire, who was a late Victorian and Edwardian photographer.) Overall size: 8 ½” x 10 ½”. The frame is original; a fine-grained honey colored wood (like maple) with banded inlay edge, and having its original mat and wavy glass.Tucked inside the backboard was a late 20thcentury business card: Olive Mills Gallery, Arts and Crafts Supply Company. Artist’s Supplies, Lessons, Gifts and Antiques Rt. 231, 5 miles N. of Madison, Banco, Virginia 22711. Phyllis E. Rockwell Tel. (703) 923-4328
On the reverse of the business card:“Purchased in Helmsley, Yorkshire, England, town market day.”
Following on from the reasonable success of last year’s inaugural Cavalier of the Year and Puppy of the Year event, the Cavalier KC Spaniel Club have strived to make this year’s competition on Sunday September 8th 2013 even better.
They have moved to a beautiful new venue in the Warwickshire countryside which is easily accessible from the main motorway network – Wroxall Abbey Estate was the country seat of Sir Christopher Wren, and boasts the lovely ‘Wrens Cathedral’ in its grounds. Blackpool All Breeds Championship show was a washout, weatherwise, in 2012 so the Committee must have been relieved to see decent weather forecast for this year's show days 21st-23rd June. Judging in the Cavalier rings was Brian Rix (Ricksbury) and Rob Sansom (Byersmoor) and the Toy Breeds day was blessed with the sun splitting the sky. Some photos for you to enjoy. Blackpool is a seaside Lancashire town and is popular with holiday makers. Amongst its quaint attractions it offers a Tower, Pier, beach, Amusement Park, donkey rides, fish-and-chip shops, fortune-tellers, trams, zoo, theatres and shows, and Blackpool Rock. It is our "Venice of the North", and quite unique.

RUFF DAY AT WORK?
Do pets make a difference in the workplace?
Pet lovers always say how beneficial it is to bring their dogs to work and researchers at Virginia Commonwealth University believe they may be right. They are exploring the people-pet connection in the workplace. A study published last year found that bringing a pet to work is beneficial to the employee and the employer. “Our study seems to support the idea that a dog presence in the workplace may reduce stress, increase job satisfaction and communication and really help with the issue of job burnout,” said Prof. Randolph Barker, the principal investigator for this study.
Greta Springett feels lucky to work for a company that lets her bring her Cavalier Phoebe to the office whenever she works. “It gives me peace of mind. When Phoebe’s here with me, I know she’s well taken care of and she has a calming effect on everyone. It’s really a nice perk.“They bring smiles to employee’s faces,” said co-owner Lance Hollander. “It makes the work environment easier for people trying to handle a busy life.”
