CAVALIER SHOW IN THE MIDLANDS
The last Club show of the year, held at the Kennel Club Building in Stonleigh, is the Midland Cavalier Clubwhich covers the Staffordshire, Warwickshire, West Midlands, Worcestershire, Oxfordshire, Shropshire and Gloucestershire areas. It turned out to be a beautiful, crisp, bright day for late November and the wintery feel that usually accompanies this show was missing and no one was complaining. It was so nice to be minus the fog, rain, snow! Judges were Linda Flynn (Linjato) doing bitches and Nicky Firth (Firnick) doing dogs. The entry was over 300, and with 26 in Minor Puppy dog and 23 in Minor Puppy bitch things seemed almost like it used to be instead of the penny numbers in classes we saw earlier in the year. The reason...?? combination of the judges, central location, one of the last chances to qualify for Crufts 2014, christmas spirit. Whatever it was that drew people out, was most welcome and the atmosphere was buoyant. Here are some photos from the day.

The oldest Veteran born 16th April 2003..Sue Brooks' Moonvale Mona Lisa"Her show career really started at 10.5 years of age. She won BVIS at the Humberside (her first time out since a puppy) this year and has never been unplaced at any of the shows she has gone to. She is my constant companion at home even sleeping on my bed" Mona Lisa won the £20 special awarded by Flo Sinclair in memory of ByFloSin Jemimah's Swan Song
How on earth did I manage not to get anyone, dog or human, to look at the camera!
....and what was this all about!
Elaine Berwick and Janet Waller!
It was a smashing show and the only unenthusiastic comment heard was "where are the Mince Pies and Sherry?". Every year the Club has kindly provided Xmas refreshments but it seems decided, due to excess left in previous years, to abandon this perk. From all accounts, they were sorely missed by the masses! Maybe the Club will reinstate this generous and most welcome tradition. I hope so...if you werent successful in the ring you always had the mince pies and sherry as a consolation!
GONE TOO SOON
The Cavalier world is the poorer this week for the passing of Geoffrey Porter (Ringcreevy). This year was a proud one for Geoffrey, Past Chairman and latterly Vice Chairman of the Northern Ireland Cavalier Club, as he judged dogs at the Cavalier Club Championship show in March and also travelled to Atlanta in October as one of the invited Judges at the CKCSC USA National Specialty.
Here in his own words is his life with Cavaliers.

Obituary that appeared in The Scotsman newspaper....
UK TRICOLOUR CHAMPIONS FROM THE 80s
The People's Dispensary For Sick Animals is a veterinary charity in the UK. It was founded in 1917 to provide care for sick and injured animals of the poor and is the UK's leading veterinary charity, carrying out more than one million free veterinary consultations a year.
Flo Sinclair reminds us that we can all help fund raise for this worthwhile cause by recycling the stamps that we get on our letters and at this time of year, Xmas cards.
"As usual I am collecting and saving all the stamps from the envelopes the Christmas Cards arrive in and take them round to the PDSA. so that they can turn them into much needed funds to treat the animals of people who cannot afford to pay for vets. They are a registered charity, who make no charges, depending on donations from pet owners and others to meet their expenses. They treated Hattie after the Pit Bull attack without charge because she was admitted as an emergency, so I found out from bitter experience what devoted care their staff give to all the animals who come to them in need.
I am asking if everyone could save their stamps so that they can take or send them on to their local clinic or PDSA Animal Hospital to help fund their work. If anyone would like to help in this way and does not have a branch of the PDSA in their area, could they pop their collection of stamps, however few or many, into an envelope and send them on to me and I will be only too happy to hand them in together with my own. A couple of people from abroad did this last year, which the receptionist told me was deeply appreciated. Over recent years people have been so kind, sending in whole collections of specialised stamps, donated both from the UK and several other countries around the world. I am happy to receive stamps not only from the UK, but from abroad too. There is no time limit to sending in the stamps, which I can deliver to my local animal hospital at any time of the year." So if you would like to help with this Flo's contact address is Flo Sinclair. 35 Anita Grove. Erdington Birmingham. B23 7NU
Your old mobile phones, inkjet cartridges, foreign coins are also welcomed by the PDSA.
PDSA receives between £5.00 - £30.00 depending on the phone model.
PDSA receives £1 for every used inkjet cartridge
PDSA receives around £6 per kilo for used stamps.
