HOW "ART" THOU?
An etching known as “Prince Charles aka Bonnie Prince Charlie”, by the great English engraver Herbert Thomas Dicksee RE (1862 – 1942) this was published by the Fine Arts Society in 1902 and is signed and titled in pencil by the artist. It measures approximately 7½ x 9½ inches. It is believed that perhaps the artists owned a Toy Spaniel known as "Prince Charles". with the HAMSHERE GALLERY.
ANYONE KNOW OF THIS AMERICAN KENNEL "VAN DYCK" and MRS ALLERTON?
Vanessa Weber (Kenjockety Cavaliers)who lives in Connecticut bought this curious kennel pamphlet in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1994 from a Vermont antique dealer. Vanessa writes"I've often wondered if this little pamphlet or the lady who wrote it - in 1902 - wasn't the inspriration for Roswell Eldridge in 1924. Maybe they knew each other? "

"LORPHIL" LORRAINE IN WALLOON LAND
Saturday 25th January 2014 saw me at Newcastle airport waiting for the first of two flights to Brussels, via Amsterdam. Due to wet and windy conditions out of Amsterdam, flights were delayed by about 30 mins. As I had a window seat on this flight I was able to see, close up at least five planes waiting their turn in a queue ready for take off. A taxi awaited me when I landed and the driver appeared to drive as though he was in a Grand Prix, fast and furious.
My two nights stay at the Best Western hotel were very comfortable with very accommodating staff serving fulfilling breakfast before leaving for the International Championship show at Mouscron
where I was to judge the Cavaliers, King Charles Spaniels and Pekingese.
I would like to extend my thanks to Andre Dumullier, club Secretary, for inviting me to judge and to the exhibitors for bringingtheir dogs.Special thanks to Arnold Jacques who was the perfect steward and Marc Degeeter for attending to all the ring paperwork.
Judging began prompt 10.00am with Cavaliers. This show was held under FCI rules and as such each colour in both Cavaliers and King Charles Spaniels are judged separately and those awarded an Excellent grade in each colour / sex can be given the CAC.
In my opinion there was greater strength in the particolours, particularly the tricolours, than in the wholecolours. Below are a couple of winning wholecolours
Moving on to the particolours, beginning with the blenheims
A 21 month old blenheim male, again of excellent breed type, PASCAVALE DECLAN, bred in England by Mark Sedgwick and Michael Levy and owned by Anika Stahl, won the CAC from the Intermediate Class. A richly marked boy, with a gorgeous head and gentle expression; he has a good reach of neck and shoulder placement, level topline and well set tail, very good spring of rib for his age.
In older blenheim males I was very impressed with two particular boys, finding plenty to like against the breed standard and a difficult decision to separate them. These were MAIBEE CRAWFORD,litter brother to the well known winning English tricolour Maibee McVitie and a glorious, richly coloured boy bred in France by Roger Madec. This was the dog that I could easily have brought home with me, had his owner agreed. GENTLE GUY DE LA GEODE sired by Ch. Angel’s Pride Gentleman who himself is sired by multi CC winning Ch. Maibee Make Believe bred by the late Shealagh Waters.
In the photo above you can see the best of the Junior bitches. The winner a most attractive well marked bitch, sound as they come on the move and of excellent breed type. She is INSTANT MAGIQUE DES CAVALIERS DE CECVAN,bred in France by Mme Claudie Cecchet & sired by Bonitos Campaneros Wimbledon. This bitch was the first of three bitches from Mme Cecchet’s kennel that impressed me.
Credit must be given to the owner of the best blenheim Veteran, TARA DES MARAIS DE BREMES,at 11 1/2 years young she was of lovely breed type, with a silky, well marked coat and long, well feathered ears. She moved elegantly around the ring.
The majority of the tricolours were of an excellent breed type, absolutely correct for size with correctly arched neck and well laid back shoulders, level toplines and very well set and carried tails. The temperaments were exactly as I would want to find — gay, friendly with ever wagging tails.
From Left to Right, in the photo below, is the tricolour Junior bitch winner and BEST OF BREED.....ICONE DE MODE DES CAVALIERS DE CECVAN & the CACIB winners, the tricolour dog and blenheim bitch
Although under FCI rules the Juniors cannot win a CAC or CACIB, they can compete for BOB and this lightly marked girl sent goose bumps down my spine. I would have happily given her a CC and brought her home.
GET THAT WARM, FLUFFY FEELING..with a CAVALIER FLEECE BLANKET
The WESTMINSTER KC SHOW in New York, which many regard as the equivalent to Crufts, saw a Veteran Blenheim Cavalier take top honours in the breedand then to top that he took 2nd place in the Toy Group.
GCH Grantilley Galaxy Moonwas born in the UK on April 27th 2005 out of Grantilley Love Design and by UK Ch Grantilley Shadow Moon. This blenheim boy, of Rita Bidgood's breeding, is owned by David and Millie Talley who live in Kentucky. He was the choice for BEST OF BREED of judge Timothy Catterson out of the 28 dogs entered and the 15 that exhibited (a high absentee rate possibly due to inclement weather) and in the Toy Group he found favour with judge Mrs Keke Kahn. Seen here being steered to top honours is his handler Adam Peterson.
an informal photo of "Jet" and his "people".
BEST BITCH went to GCH Bekenhall Blue Suede Shoeswho is 4 years old. Bred and owned by Frankie Hall from Texas. Sire is GCH Bekenhall Jailhouse Rock and Dam is Ch Pinecrest Mojo A GoGo Of Bekenhall.
