THOSE WHO PARADED AND PARTIED AT CRUFTS 2014...

  Rrr

With the Cavalier Club show now behind us it was time to regroup and head off for Crufts 2014 at the National Exhibition Centre near Birmingham. Cavalier Bitches started at 8.30 am with Annette Jones (Timsar)judging, and Dogs half an hour later with Anne Reddaway (Homaranne). Traffic can be a nightmare getting into this event if you leave it too late, so living in the North meant a very early start. Up at 2am and precious little sleep the night before! But once inside the hall, the magic that is Crufts takes over and the tiredness slips away and the adrenalin kicks in. Crufts is a show where you cannot walk far without meeting someone you know. Here are some photos of some of the people I bumped into! So many pictures, this is just the beginning!  Please let me know if you recognise anyone without a name....

After the close of judging we celebrated with Champagne, cheese and nibbles provided by Fabienne and Dom Auquiert (breeders of new Ch Gamble des Contemplations) and Guillaume Tytgat and Aurelien Charlet who had travelled from France. It had been a great day and a perfect ending where we could relax with friends and have a laugh. These Champagne receptions are becoming a habit that no one minds! Santé

Eventually we were all singing Frere Jacques, Au Clair de la Lune and even the Singing Nun version of Dominique...

Every year in March, the Midland Cavalier Clubhave the honour of representing the breed on the Discover Dogs stand at Crufts. The splendid art work is by Eleanor Mancey and the event is organised by Mary Rees and manned by willing members of the Midland Club. It is a fantastic opportunity to show the general public and potential cavalier owners how loving, gentle and beautiful our breed is and gives them the chance to get close to the dogs and ask any questions they may have. Loads of people put so much effort into this worthy cause and it is fabulous that they heaped a smashing reward

 POPPY TAKES THE PLUNGE

HHHH

Lyme Regis Coastguards have urged dog walkers to keep their pets on leads when walking near cliff edges. The warning comes after the team were called to rescue a Cavalier that had plunged 50 metres off a cliff at Cains Folly in Charmouth. West Dorset. "Poppy" was being walked by its owner who was visiting the area on holiday when it ran off chasing a rabbit and fell off the cliff into a steep gulley below. Following the fall, the owner called the coastguards to rescue the dog, which involved abseiling down the cliff face to collect the dog and the owner’s actions have been praised by the coastguard, as they also urged members of the public not to try and rescue the dogs themselves.

“In this case, the owner kept very calm and did the right thing in calling the coastguards rather than trying to rescue his dog himself. We urge all dog walkers to keep dogs on the leads at all times. We want them to enjoy our beautiful countryside but we want them to keep them and their dogs safe. If there is an accident and the dog does fall, they should stand back, call the coastguard and don’t try and rescue the dog themselves.”

"Poppy" escaped the fall with only minor cuts.

DIANE FRY...LEGENDARY BREEDER OF CAVALIERS, KING CHARLES AND JAPANESE CHINS

DiFryDiane Fry (AMANTRA) one of the greats in our breed passed away yesterday morning , 24th March 2014. Truly a sad day for not only Di's family but for the whole of the Cavalier Community worldwide. Our condolences on this dark day to all her family but especially to Pepe, and her daughters Tracy, Amanda and Marianna and the grand children of whom she was so obviously proud. There will be many, many tributes from across the globe in the weeks ahead and I am happy to display these here on ChatterBox www.cavaliers.co.uk If anyone feels they would like to express their feelings and pay respect, please email your message to me ncraigowl@btinternet.com  or private message me, Norma Inglis, on Facebook, and these can be displayed. Many may not have known Diane personally but the Amantra affix appears for generations in so many pedigrees and continues to have success today not only in Cavaliers but also in King Charles and Japanese Chins where Diane and Tracy showed time and time again their expertise as breeders and exhibitors. Anyone with a love of Cavaliers has reason to feel this loss and we owe her our gratitude for her ability to breed such beautiful dogs, sound both in mind and body. In time, hopefully her family may get comfort from these tributes and appreciate all our sentiments.

Sometimes a few words of condolences doesn't always cover the depth of association and feelings involved, and a more detailed tribute is merited. There are many who may want to post a longer, more personal piece about their individual involvement with Diane and the Amantras and these are welcomed. Di's own contribution to the breed assisted so many on their own journey in Cavaliers and if anyone would like to either acknowledge this or say a bit more, please feel free to do so and I will display it here.

The page will remain open indefinitely to receive tributes.

What a wonderful time I had with such a beautiful family and the first of many more trips to England. My condolences go out to Tracy and her family at this sad time. RIP beautiful lady........ A SAD TIME....HAPPY MEMORIES AND GRATEFUL THANKS.....new tributes will be added as they come in....

MEMO

I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing, peacefully in her sleep, of Di Fry on Monday last, writes Andrew Brace. Thus we have lost another of the truly great breeders.I had known Di for more than forty years since she first established her Amantra kennel, named as a tribute to her two older daughters Amanda and Tracy, when we were young exhibitors on the Toy circuit in Wales and the West. Di’s kennel was first successful in Cavaliers and later King Charles and Japanese Chins. She was an instinctively gifted breeder, being smart enough to build her lines on the best available foundation stock, and always being mindful of the need to combine breed type with soundness. As one would expect of someone who was herself the height of chic and glamour, the Amantra dogs were always put into the ring in immaculate condition, perfectly presented and handled. She produced many Champions in all three breeds and was one of those rare and giving breeders who was prepared to let top quality stock go to other exhibitors when she was certain of their enthusiasm and commitment.
I vividly recall my first Championship show appointment at Southern Counties when I awarded a first CC to the beautiful tricolour bitch, Amantra Bohemian Image, a daughter of Ch Bohemian Rhapsody. She went on to win many more and it is hard to believe that this was actually 33 years ago. Di was a people-person. She was very family orientated and made friends easily. A gracious and generous host, there were many jolly parties held at Banwell where Di was totally unflappable and enjoyed entertaining her many friends. Furthermore as time went on and Amantra had become one of the leading kennels in her breeds, Di was always happy to share her knowledge with new or young enthusiasts and since her passing many have referred to her as being their mentor. Naturally bubbly and effervescent in personality, Di was always fun to be around and had a wicked sense of humour. Furthermore, whatever the circumstances she was never less than immaculately groomed and tastefully dressed. I recall many years ago driving together with Di when my car broke down. We had to wait some two hours for assistance and I swear all that time was spent with Di carefully back-combing her hair and checking her makeup! When she had the honour of judging BIS at the UK Toydog show last year friends were concerned that she appeared to be unwell and soon after it became known that she had been diagnosed with the debilitating and incurable motor neurone disease which came as a huge shock to all who loved her. With typical Di determination, she insisted on continuing to come to dog shows and even though wheelchair-bound she was still the same glamorous Di. Even when she had lost the power of speech, she continued to chat with friends via a pen and notepad; her courage was both humbling and inspiring. With the advent of FACEBOOK Di was able to communicate with her many friends around the world and she enjoyed being able to do so. Many appreciated the fact that they could stay in touch with someone they both liked and respected.  Di will be missed dreadfully and we can only imagine the hurt being felt by her devoted husband Pepe, her daughters Mandy, Tracy and Marianna and her ten grandchildren. We send them all our deepest condolences...ANDREW BRACE

To my Second Mother, I will miss you so much, your help and support was always unconditional. To my second family, my love goes out to you all at this very sad time, I am here if you need me at any time of day or night I will be there like a shot. Mea Kendall

"Today when I heard the saddest possible news, I couldn’t help reflecting on the change Di Fry made to my life over 30 years ago. My search for another show quality Cavalier to join our young family and established show girl, began in 1978, but first I had to find the right breeder and that search eventually brought me to the door of Di Fry. I had watched and admired the Amantra Cavaliers for a couple of years, and then ‘once approved’ I patiently sat on Di’s waiting list until she had the right puppy for me. I’ve always been grateful for the trust Di put in me, and the quality this clever breeder graciously shared with me, a mere novice exhibitor. 34 years later, every Cavalier in my home goes back to my beloved, “Amantra Boogie Wonderland of Telvara JW,’ who proved to be a fun girl to show, and more importantly a wonderful foundation for my bloodline. My admiration for Di has strengthened even more over the years, not only for her huge achievements in several breeds, and her expertise as an international judge, but also for the radiant touch of glamour she brought to our hobby, with never a hair out of place and the smartest outfits adorning her petite frame. Di’s style, sense of humour, and lovely smile will be so missed by so many....her bravery throughout this tragic time of illness has been simply awe inspiring, and to Pepe, Tracy, Amanda and  Marianna and all the family who Di clearly adored, I offer my sincere condolences on your painful and untimely loss. RIP Di..... you were one of a kind, and I will miss you." VERONICA HULL (TELVARA UK)

This is indeed very sad news. We spoke briefly to her at Manchester and at the Cavalier Club show but she was unable to talk and just smiled and gestured. Yet even in such a poor state of health she still looked smart with her hair neatly styled. If there is one word that summed up Di it was the word ELEGANT. She was always immaculately dressed whether judging or showing and her strong sense of style also applied to her dogs as they were always groomed and presented to perfection. She was the judge at the second show that we ever entered; the Eastern Counties CKCS open show in September 1980. Her top winning dogs at that time were Ch Amantra Anchors Away, Ch Amantra Bohemian Rhapsody, Ch Amantra Bohemian Image and Ch Amantra Roxy Music. We were so in awe of her line. Over the years she has bred some outstanding dogs in Cavaliers, Charlies and Chins. A lovely lady who will be sorely missed. Our thoughts go out to her family. DENNIS & TINA HOMES  (LEOGEM UK)

So very sad to hear that Di has left us . Her bravery during the last , so very difficult , months have touched us all. Her loving daughters and friends helped her to keep her flag flying , to look as good as she always did , to show real pleasure when she saw her old friends .we had lunch with Di and Tracy on her Best in Show appointment at UKTOY and we thought we would see her for many years to come , in spite of that severe illness .
After 40 years of friendship , her daughters know how we feel for them . They will comfort each other , and Dis adored grandchildren ........and of course , her handsome Pepe. DI and CARL JOHNSON send loving respects to you all . In sadness xx

Such sad news, I have known Di and Tracy for 40+ years and Di has always looked the same, beautiful, immaculate and with a smile on her face and a hello to everyone. Her beautiful kennel of dogs, with champions in every breed show what a successful breeder she was. A big hug to you as well Mea, I know you have been there for the girls beyond the call of duty. To Tracy and all her family my sincere condolences x Elaine Berwick

I am so sorry to hear of this great loss to the Cavalier world. Di was such a marvelous person and certainly left her imprint on pretty much all Cavaliers today.  My mother, the late Olive Darbyshire of Mingchen Cavaliers first imported to Canada, Amantra Pinball Wizard back in the 70's.  This wonderful dog was the foundation of our start to the Cavalier.  We were very fortunate to have imported several Amantra dogs since; the last being in 1990 Amantra Disco To Go.  I give Amantra and Di Fry the credit for our success with Cavaliers then and still to this day. My condolences go to the Fry family.Louise Pearce

I first met Di at the West of England Open Show in 1972. At the time, she was the Secretary and made me feel very welcome. We have remained friends ever since. She was a talented breeder and, over the years, bred some lovely Cavaliers.  She will be greatly missed. Condolences to her family, they will miss her dreadfully. Judy Wright.

"The Wishing Pool"  etching by the great English canine artist Herbert Thomas Dicksee RE, (1862 – 1942)  published  in 1904. It is approximately 18 x 26 inches. Dicksee was a dog lover often seen walking his Bloodhound. The Dandie Dinmont and Pugs in his etching were family dogs, as was the favourite Bull Terrier. The black French Bulldog, ’Shaver’, featured in his etchings was the only dog Dicksee ever entered for a dog show. At one show at Olympia, Dicksee walked the dog from Hampstead to the show venue to try to get weight off him before he went in the ring!

SOUTH PAWS

A couple of good reasons to attend the Southern Cavalier Club Ch show at Woking is that chocolate Easter eggs are on offer to all prize winners and you can win some tidy money in the Grand National (Horse race)

Giant-easter-eggssweepstake organised by Mark Sedgwick!  Putting these added attractions aside, 193 Cavaliers gathered for the assessment by this year's judges Rob Dix (Beewye) doing dogs and Tony Allcock MBE(Sleepyhollow) doing bitches. Here are some photos of the day. ps I won £5 for my horse coming 4th in the race and Sally won an Easter egg!

 RIP RICK BEAUCHAMP

BestofBreedChHurleazeBristolBlue2

Well known American judge Richard (Rick) Beauchamp passed away a few days ago at his home.  Rick was a Charter Member of the American CKCS Club and co-owned several Cavaliers in the 1990’s.  As well as a judge held in high esteem, he was a writer and a big fan of our breed. I had the pleasure of judging with him in 2006 at the National /Cavaliers of Greater Atlanta Regional Specialty and enjoyed corresponding with him afterwards. He will be missed.

 WELSH HANDLER OF THE YEAR
 1979733_10201466090566018_1081212577_n

Although only 17 years old, Melissa Phillips has achieved so much for one so young. Her Junior Handling skills have seen her compete and gain success time after time. For example she took Runner Up Junior Handler of the Year 2013 in the whole of the UK under judge Helena Hutchings and this year she was crowned Welsh Junior Handlerof the Year by judge Marina Scott. We are fortunate indeed to have such talent in our Cavalier midst.

Marina Scott said

Melissa Phillips aged 17, a handler in her prime and so deserved this title. I still don’t think I have ever come across such a naturally happy handler who enjoys it so much without having to grin from cheek-to-cheek.  Cavaliers are not flashy breeds to handle but she MAKES it flashy without saying ‘look at me’. Its difficult to put my finger on exactly what makes her handling so good but I think it’s the overall calm, kind nature and excellent rapport she has with her dog plus carrying out patterns with ease and in the correct manner. Many congratulations on your second Welsh handling title. A pleasure to judge.

After winning Welsh Handler of the Year, Melissa was interviewed by Imageggg

Age, town and county where you live.I am 17 years old from Pontypridd, South Wales.

Name of dog (pet and KC reg name), breed, and owner's name (any co-owners too)The dog that I handled was a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel called Maddie which we bred ourselves and her show name is Tillymist Sheez Innocence JW. She was our first show dog that we bred ourselves and has done us very proud in the ring. She is owned by myself and my mum Jayne.

What sort of success have you had with this dog in breed?Maddie has done really well in the ring where she gained her Junior Warrant and Stud Book Number at the age of 16 months (our first JW too!) She qualified for Cavalier Puppy of the Year 2012 and Welsh Junior of the Year 2012 whilst still a puppy and we competed in the YKC Stakes Final at Crufts and took 3rd place against toy breeds older than herself! After a long break out of the show ring she came with us to do the Munster Circuit in Ireland and surprised us all by taking the Reserve Green Star at Tralee and was graded excellent at all 4 shows.

Do you own any other dogs and tell us about them? I own 6 other cavaliers and a Kooikerhondje.  Lilly is our very first cavalier who started the showing bug when we went to companion shows and she will be 10 years old, she was followed by Missee who is 8 and a half years old and is our foundation bitch to the Tillymist line. We have another stay at home cavalier called Lexii who is 4 years old and then we come to our second generation of Tillymist cavaliers who are Maddie (3 years) and her younger siblings Eevie, Frankie and Harry (all aged 20 months). In Cavaliers, Frankie and Eevie were both halfway to their Irish Junior champion title and are both qualified for Crufts and Welsh Junior of the Year 2014, Eevie also qualified for Cavalier Puppy of the Year 2013. Our veteran Missee has won four BVIS including two of these at club shows and also has her stud book number. Her granddaughter Maddie also has her stud book number and JW as well as being qualified for Cavalier Puppy of the Year 2013. Buddie my Kooikerhondje (Ir.CH Crunchcroft Mastermind). Last August, I made up my first champion being Buddie whilst on the Munster Circuit which was amazing especially since he is one of only 3 champions in the UK of his breed. He has exceeded all that I could have hoped for and has even allowed me to venture into the group at Windsor. He also qualified for Welsh Junior of the Year, Welsh Top Puppy and Welsh Top Dog where he was runner up in his category to the eventual winner and will also be competing in South Wales Open Show Dog of the Year in March this year,

What training clubs do you belong to?Unfortunately I do not belong to any training clubs due to both my parents working nights, however I occasionally go to Treharris Ring Craft if they aren’t working.

How long have you been showing dogs and how did you get into it?I have been showing Cavaliers for 9 years and my Kooikerhondje for 3 years. I begun by showing my Cavalier Lilly in small companion shows where we did quite well in the novelty section! My parents and I were at a local leisure centre where we popped into a Cavalier club show. We were just watching when I was asked to stand a dog for someone who had to handle a bitch in the other ring, from there on we bought our first tri colour, Missee and we haven't stopped showing since! Missee is from the lady who asked me to stand the dog for her so I am really grateful for asking me to show for her.

Are you at college/uni/gap year and explain what you are currently up to?I am currently in Year 12 studying for my AS levels. The subjects I have taken are Biology, Chemistry, and English (Literature/Language).

This is the second year you've one, when was the first and who was the judge? What was that like?I cannot believe that I have won the title for a second year, I was ready to hand over my title however to win it again is fantastic! My first time winning was last year with Maddie under well known handler Sarah Gibbons.  I was completely shocked when I won the 12-16 category as I haven’t been in the handling ring since November!

What has been your most memorable moment in your dog showing career so far? My most memorable moment has got to be winning Runner Up Handler of the Year 2013 at Earls Court in November handling Harry who at the time was 16 months old and hadn’t been in the ring since he was 6 months old - it was a dream come true. Other special moments include winning the Welsh Handler of the Year in 2013 and 2014 and the Semi Finals in 2008, 2012 and 2013. In the breed ring I have to say that campaigning Buddie to his Irish Champion title was amazing especially with all the problems he has overcome in the ring.

What would you like to achieve in the world of showing dogs?I have achieved so much these past few years so anything on top of these successes would be a bonus but I would love the opportunity to handle for a kennel abroad preferably a Cavalier kennel!

Who has inspired you along the way? There is not one particular person but there have been a few good friends who have helped me along the way with advice and constant prompting to push me on further – these people would know who they are and for that I am forever grateful to them.

What advice have you got to other juniors who perhaps are just starting out in the world of dogs?My main advice would be to get a strong bond with your dog it works wonders in the ring if you and your dog are both enjoying yourselves and have a natural rapport with each other. Remember to enjoy what you are doing and be polite and courteous towards both judges and other handlers. Enjoy your junior handling years as before you know it you are too old to compete so never give up!

Melissa sends many thanks to everyone who has supported her and allowed her to handle their dogs.

The Northern Club held it's AGM on Sunday 6th April at Pool in Yorkshire. This was followed by a scrumptious 3 course lunch, Roast Beef or Chicken  and trimmings and then Apple Crumble, Trifle and more, provided by Christine McFarlane and her crew. In the afternoon a Supermatch took place between the Cavaliers belonging to members who had qualified and at the last minute the mystery secret judge was revealed ....Sandra Mowatt (Asmena). It was a great day out and proved that the social and the competition side of showing can be fun.

The Northern Ireland Cavalier Club held it's Championship show at Ballyclare, a small town in Co Antrim, on 3rd May 2014. Dave Smith (Davanel)from Larbert in Scotland replaced the original judge Diane Fry (Amantra) who sadly died at the end of March 2014. It was also touching to see the late Geoffrey Porter's sister, Audrey there at this the first Club show since he passed away. A minute's silence was held in their memory as a sign of the esteem in which both were held. Geoffrey was a past Chairman, Secretary and long time Committee member and a Memorial Rose bowl in his name was presented by the Club for Best in Show.

I travelled to Stavanger in Norway on 9th May 2014 to judge Cavaliers and Toy breeds at the Norwegian Papillon and Phalene Club/Sor-Rogaland Brukshund Klubb. My appointed breeds were judged indoors which was lucky, considering some of the breeds outside endured heavy rain. The panel included judges from Latvia, Spain, Belgium, Portugal, Serbia, Croatia and Rumania. Here are some photos from inside the show and of the lovely countryside.

 IiiiiPppp
Dennis and Tina Homes (Leogem) had a difficult start to their trip to Czech Republic where they judged at the two day show hosted by the Cavalier Klub Chec, Moravy a Slezska in Kutna Hora.

Dennis writes "We were judging Saturday and Sunday but booked our flight for Thursday evening so as to spend the Friday looking around the historic town of Kutna Hora. We only live a little over 30 minutes drive from Stansted, just three turn offs along the M11 from our home. So as to miss the evening rush hour we decided to leave home mid afternoon and arrive at Stansted really early and then have dinner in one of the airport restaurants. However shortly before we got on to the motorway there was an horrendous crash involving several cars and a horsebox. One of the cars caught fire and sadly two people were killed. The police closed the motorway and we were stuck there for several hours thus missing our flight. We managed to book another flight for the following day and did not arrive at our hotel in the Czech Republic until nearly 11 pm on the Friday evening and were due to commence judging the following morning at 9.15 am. Despite all the anguish we had a marvellous time judging the shows and the committee and fellow exhibitors were very friendly and we were shown great hospitality. I’ve attached some photographs"

KkkkkFor the first time in its 119-year history, the 2014 Devon County Show held near Exeter, was cancelled on the final day for safety. Parking safety concerns caused by recent heavy rain had left the organisers no choice. The show saw huge tailbacks and delays caused by the closure of car parks on Friday afternoon. Quite exceptionally heavy rainfall before and during the show had turned the car parks in quagmires and 16 tractors were involved in helping vehicles leave the showground. _75064841_de53

Annette Flower (Anberan) was down to judge the excellent entry of Cavaliers and was saddened when the Society contacted her on Friday night with the sad news. Hopefully everyone going was made aware of the cancellation and didn't have a wasted journey. Annette refregts everyone's disappointment.

THAT'S 'WHO' IT WAS!

6a010535952948970b0147e33a1546970bThe Cavalier who was with "Dr Who" star Jon Pertwee in last week's Chatterbox was bred by Bryan and Marilyn Claydon (Brymarden). Bryan writes " We were pleasantly surprised to see Jon Pertwee with his Cavalier 'Digby' on your Chatterbox. We bred 'Digby' and he could be seen from time to time on TV and in the National press. Barbara Palfree of the Blagreaves Cavaliers had put Jon on to us, knowing we had a litter. When Jon phoned he asked if we recognised his voice to which Marilyn replied "yes, its Doctor Who!" Jon was performing at Richmond, Yorkshire at the time and asked us if we could deliver the puppy to him. We had a lovely day, having lunch at his home and later going to see him in the show. Happy memories.

SCKCS

0006424The Scottish Cavalier Club held it's Summer Open show at Haddington in East Lothian and this year the judge was Jeff Hindle (Ellisiana) from Darlington. Around midday, we were entertained by strains of the bagpipes coming from just outside the Corn Exchange where the show was held. It was the start of a parade by the Haddington Pipe Band. GGGG Inside the hall it was just as entertaining with fab food, great chat and very generous minded exhibitors who clapped enthusiastically for all of Jeff's winners. A lovely show with a good atmosphere and refreshing sportsmanship.

IBBBThe Humberside Cavalier Club is the youngest of the UK Cavalier Clubs and covers Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Humberside, Derbyshire and North Nottinghamshire. It's Champ show was held on 8th June 2014 at Newark and Notts Showground Mmm

and attracted 212 Cavaliers for judges Jill Sheard (Almondene) and Andrea Sedgbeer (Russmic)who were judging for the first time at this level. Steve's pictures of the class winners at most shows are as always on the show photos section of www.cavaliers.co.uk

This is a popular show as it is easy to get to and all the other amenities such as close parking, good lighting etc make it most attractive. It was a warm sunny day and the feel good factor was evident. The picnics and champagne bash helped, I am sure. Linda Flynn and the Humberside crew work really hard to make sure this show continues to be one of the most enjoyable in the Cavalier show calendar. Here are some fun pics of some of the exhibitors and dogs, courtesy of yours truly and Gunter Clerx from Belgium.

BORDER UNION....bordering on perfection

ShowG4

GgggKkk

Border Union All Breeds Championship show has the prettiest of settings....the Scottish border town of Kelso which is situated on the banks of the River Tweed at its junction with the Teviot.  Kelso is ideal for exploring the Borders, the Berwickshire Coast and North Northumberland. Described by Sir Walter Scott as 'The most beautiful if not the most romantic village in Scotland'. With a population of just over 6,000, it is protected to the north by the Lammermuir Hills and the Cheviots to the south and lies in one of the most fertile valleys in the country. Being within ten miles of the English border, past history dealt the town a very hard time during the Border Wars of the thirteenth to sixteenth centuries. Cavalier owners Kirstie McMurray (Assistant Chief Steward) and her mum Marie McFarlane (Vice President) have long connections with this show and together with the rest of the Committee do a great job keeping all the exhibitors, judges and spectators happy. Mandy Attwood (Clentview)judged dogs and bitches (all CC/RCC and class results on Steve's section of the site) and a new Champion was crowned, who did us proud in the Toy Group by being Runner Up. . Here are some Cavalier people having a good time.....

Launched in 2010, Talking Dogs Rally® is the largest, most popular canine rally organisation in the UK. Based on Rally-Obedience, created by Charles Kramer in USA in 2000, this UK version brings fun, practical challenges to pet dogs and their owners. Starting with 200 points, and aiming to lose as few points as they can, teams perform user-friendly obedience-style exercises (stations) set out in a numbered course. TD Rally® is fun for all, welcoming handlers of all ages and abilities, and dogs both mongrel and pedigree. Uniquely, TD Rally® encourages teams to compete against their own previous scores rather than just against each other. With 93 different exercises, four levels of difficulty, eight different classes and an infinite combination of stations, Talking Dogs Rally® will keep you and your dog busy for years to come.

Jens and Dorte Elkjaerfrom Denmark writes:-

The Belgian Toy Club "PejaToySpa" held their clubshow on 1st of June where Peter Towse Iii(Miletree) was invited to judge the breed (with exception of the baby and puppy classes which were judged by Mrs. P. H. Runderkamp). There were not only cavaliers entered but other toy breeds who had also organised club shows. It was a lovely day, with the most beautiful weather as summer really had hit Bonheiden in Belgium, the village in which the show was held.

The day before we were at the International show in Neumünster in Germany where Wilfred Peper was appointed to judge the cavaliers. So we were already halfway to Belgium!Best of Breed was our Ruby boy DKCH Cava Choice Ambitious Alexander who is 7½ years of age. This win gave 'Louis' his final CACIB for the International Champion title (subject to FCI approval).Best Opposite Sex was our Blenheim girl DKCH Cava Choice Hot Constellation who also gained her International Championship on the day. We always enjoy seeing cavaliers in other countries and meeting breeders and fellow exhibitors.
10373794_10203957384445134_8032177436409672122_n

The PejaToySpa show had an international touch as cavaliers from 5 countries were entered: Belgium, France, The Netherlands, Germany and Denmark. We were made very welcome and there was a great atmosphere at the show. The breed was split into colours and judged separately. The best dog and bitch in all of the four colours were brought back into the ring in the afternoon to compete for Best of Breed. Four cavaliers were shortlisted:
The French black and tan dog, Grand Cru Of Cuddly World, the blenheim junior dog Bonitos Companeros Everlasting Dream, the blenheim dog imported to Germany, Pascavale Declan and our blenheim bitch, Cava Choice Hot Constellation who was awarded BOB.

At the end of the day, a Best In Show contest between all the Toys who had won BOB was jointly judged by Peter Towse and Mrs. Runderkamp. BIS-4 was the King Charles Spaniel, BIS-3 was a Pekingese, BIS-2 was a Japanese Chin and we were thrilled that our girl Lilly (Hot Constellation) took top award....BEST IN SHOW.

001Preparations for the Toy Spaniel Art Exhibition at the Kennel Clubare going well writes Dennis Homes....
"I’m now going to start work on the catalogue and list all the items. Each exhibit will be numbered and listed in the catalogue and a few of the paintings will be photographed and printed in the catalogue. As a result of my article about Roswell Eldridge in last August’s Cavaliers as Companionshis descendants contacted me. There has now been another interesting development. Katie Kennedy from in the USA has now been in contact with them and they are the invited guests to the CKCSC USA National show in October in Louisville, Kentucky.

Rosscrea High Society 15 yra

Heidi Mohn from Washington State USA writes about "Grace"..Happy15th Birthday to the always enchanting BISS, CKCSC-USA & AKC CH. Rosscrea High Society at Covington (Linjato Ace of Base X Eng. CH. Rosscrea Memphis Belle) bred by Wendy Taylor, UK. And yes, these are her real eyes & nose pigment! 'Grace' has been such a joy to have in our lives, one of Covington's favorites, certainly Greg's favorite. She remains in wonderful condition, active, running & playing, barking, demanding & full of energy, almost shocking to think she is a wise 15 years. The last of the original 'Baby Belle's' has quite a bit of time left in life, I believe. Thank you Wendy Taylor for sharing this beauty with us. We enjoyed her in our life every single day

....and magical Merlin
Aust Ch Dougsba Talisman

Janine & Alan Gilroy from New South Wales in Australia are pleased to announce that their first home-bred champion Ch Dougsba Talisman, celebrated his15th birthday on Sunday 8th June and is still heart clear. "Merlin" was sired by Ch.Dapsen Mr Xquisit x Ch.Barodaley Spellbound. In April 2010 they discovered there was a Cavalier in a Sydney dog pound. Curious, Janine checked the link and recognized Merlin who by then was almost 11. He was returned to Janine and he found his final home on the South Coast which he shares with 2 other Dougsba cavaliers. The three dogs go for daily walks with Merlin being the keenest to get going.
